Gano and mass weddings in history

Gano town is located about 32 kilometres from the ancient city of Kano, along Maiduguri Road, in Dawakin-Kudu Local Government Area of the state.

The town is popular in transportation sector, where Ford motors dominated the area for the past three decades.

With an estimated population of more than 100,000 inhabitants, mostly peasant famers and traders, Western education got its root back to 40 years, while Islamic education started from pre-Islsmic expediation of Sheik Usman Fodio.

What one could see so important in the community is its rich in solid minerals.
Many young schoolars were emerging – Associate Professors and many post-graduate ones.

It has a political relevance since pre and post independence strugglings.

The mass wedding the community adopted from the past years, now added a new colour in its history.

More than 100 couples got wedded within some hours.

Such events turned the community into a dancing podium where trumpets, tambourines and all sort of musical tones filled the atmosphere.

Praise singers were ceaselessly tired and a sign of disturbing mood could be visible.

Many couples admitted that, this time around, they had re-written the history of wedding in their area.

The couples appeared in different atires and without similarities.

I thought, all the weddings were organized, but the different atires worn by the new couples, proved me wrong, as they seemed to be a coincidence.

Really, this moment of mass wedding, in a situation of economic woes itching, became a new milestone in the history of Gano community.
