The Special Adviser to Kano State Governor on Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sani Musa Danja, has said that the trust, honesty and integrity of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf are the reasons the Federal Government’s ‘YEIDEP’S Financial Partners’ youth empowerment programme was brought to the state.
Hon. Danja made this known while speaking to journalists during the launch and issuance of bank account opening documents to beneficiaries of the program.
The event was held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Hall, Kofar Mata, Kano.
Hon. Danja, who is also the Coordinator of ‘YEIDEP’S Financial Partners’ for all Northern States, said the large turnout of people to embrace the programme showed the confidence they have that anyone who qualifies would benefit without any hitches.
“It is because of the trust people have in Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf that they believe the program will be implemented transparently,” he said.
He explained that the programme is a Federal Government initiative aimed at supporting citizens by providing them with startup capital.
He noted that insecurity cannot always be tackled with security agents and guns. Sometimes, teaching skills, creating jobs and providing capital is a more effective way to prevent violent activities.
“That is the main objective of the programme to keep youths away from violent acts by giving them a means of livelihood,” he said.
“If a person is idle with nothing to eat or drink due to lack of a job, hunger can push him to do the wrong thing.
“That is why we want many youths to benefit from the ‘Y’ programme,” he added.
Hon. Danja disclosed that the state alone was allocated a quota of one million youths to benefit from the programme.
He commended President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the implementation of the programme nationwide as part of the Tinubu administration’s efforts to empower youths and reduce poverty.
He also praised Governor Yusuf for his support in ensuring that the people of the state benefit from the initiative.
He further stated that the programme would be implemented in phases.
In the first phase, 100,000 youths will begin to benefit.
He said those who attended the event and submitted their names and details would be the first to be considered to ensure fairness.
