Two prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared support for the governorship ambition of Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami.
The defectors are Hon. Ibrahim Adamu Muhammad, popularly known as Uban Dawakin Gombe, a former Deputy Chairman of Gombe Local Government Council, and Alhaji Auwalu Alhassan, also known as Chiburosi, a former Chairman of the Groundnut Oil Millers Association of Gombe State.
Their defection was announced in a statement issued by the Pantamiyya Movement and signed by Prof. Suleiman Mohammed.
The statement said the two politicians decided to leave the APC and join the PDP after expressing confidence in Pantami’s leadership experience, integrity and understanding of governance.
According to the movement, their decision has further strengthened the PDP and the Pantami campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
“Their decision represents another major boost for the PDP and Professor Pantami’s growing movement across Gombe State,” the statement said.
The movement said the development would also strengthen the PDP’s political structure under the leadership of former governor and state leader of the party, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
It added that the defectors would play a role in mobilising support for the PDP and its candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The statement further highlighted Pantami’s background as a scholar and former public servant, particularly his involvement in youth empowerment and digital innovation, which it said had continued to attract political support.
The latest defections are coming amid political realignments in Gombe State, with the APC and PDP intensifying mobilisation and efforts to consolidate their respective support bases ahead of the 2027 elections.
